小霸王

Hero and Overload

牆上長有小樹苗我們都不會為意，心想它會因缺乏泥土和養分而萎縮死去．但這個細葉榕利用它氣根吸收空氣中的水份，小樹苗是會越來越大最終蓋上原本的主人．待它成為小霸王時，要處理便要花一點時間了．

Whenever there are Chinese Banyan (Ficus microcarpa) on walls, I always lay my prying eyes.  Its fruits, eaten by birds, accompanied with feces, drop from the sky.  Wherever they fall onto, they will struggle to grow.  It is common to see them attaching to walls or other trees.

We seldom take notice of saplings on walls.  We always think that they will wither because of lack of soil and nutrients.  However, Chinese Banyan makes use of its aerial roots to absorb moisture in the air.  The little sapling grows bigger and bigger and eventually covers up the host.  When it becomes the 「overlord」, it is necessary to take more time to deal with it.
