Graffiti on stones
or walls is very common in Hong Kong which shows our lack of
civism. It is quite unusual to see characters carved on trees. If
you are caught by police and found that you carry a knife (even a
pocket knife or a penknife), you will be in big trouble. Most of
our trees are lucky in escaping the mishap.
The pictures below were taken in 2007, 2008 and
2010 in Nature Education Centre in Sai Kung showing that four trees
were damaged. I I tried to look for some sort of control
mechanisms which should be installed if such damages were
discovered. Unfortunately, there is none. It does appear that tree
carving alone does not alarm the management!
Next time, when you see someone trying to damage
a tree, please do try to lift a finger (NOT give a finger!!!) by
asking him/her to refrain.
Thank you in advance for your help!
